CSV Import

CSV import is the process of uploading a CSV (comma-separated values) file to bring data into Peasy. Peasy can also read spreadsheet files such as Excel files in some import flows.

How It Works in Peasy

There are three common spreadsheet import paths:

  • item catalog import
  • quick bill or sales-order import into the create form
  • reusable spreadsheet data imports

Item Catalog Import

Use this when you want to add many buy or sell items at once.

  • Start from the item import or bulk-add spreadsheet.
  • Upload a CSV or paste spreadsheet rows.
  • Review the item rows before creating items.
  • Peasy can create related vendors, categories, and item variants when the import flow supports those fields.

This path is for item setup, not for importing bills or sales orders.

Quick Bill Or Sales Order Import

Use this when you are already creating or reviewing a single bill or sales order and want to fill the form from a spreadsheet.

  • Drop the CSV or Excel file onto the bill or sales-order create area, or paste the table.
  • Peasy detects columns and suggests field mappings.
  • Saved mappings can apply automatically.
  • The Applied columns summary shows what was used.
  • Edit mapping lets you change the mapping and re-apply it.

This path fills the current form. It does not stage reusable data import history.

Reusable Spreadsheet Data Imports

Use this when the same spreadsheet export will be uploaded again, or when one file contains many bills or sales orders.

  • Go to Configure > Data Imports > Add Data Import.
  • Upload or paste the spreadsheet.
  • Peasy detects the import type, data import, grouping, and item identity column.
  • Review the column mapping.
  • Peasy stages the import and shows an Import staged summary.
  • If item mapping is needed, Peasy sends you to the data import's item-mapping page first.
  • When records are ready, Peasy sends them to Inbox for review.
  • Data import history keeps the run, parsed rows, mapped items, and pending records connected to that data import.

Reusable data imports remember mappings and item links so future uploads from the same feed need less setup.

Key Terms

  • Data import: a reusable feed such as a recurring spreadsheet upload.
  • Mapping: the saved relationship between imported columns and Peasy fields.
  • Item mapping: the saved relationship between an item identity in the spreadsheet and an item in Peasy.
  • Staged import: an import that has been parsed and saved for review but has not created final records yet.
  • Inbox review: the final review step where staged bills or sales orders become live Peasy records.

Why It Matters

CSV import is the fastest way to load large amounts of data into Peasy. Whether you're setting up items, loading vendor price lists, or processing recurring bill/order spreadsheets, CSV import reduces manual data entry.
